Eligibility – Who Qualifies?
Project Types That Qualify:
- Feature films
- Episodic TV shows (22+ minutes per episode)
- Specials filmed at nonprofit venues (e.g. award shows, game shows)
Projects That Don’t Qualify:
- Talk shows, news, sports broadcasts
- Corporate/industrial content
- Obscene material (per NJ statute)
- Reality shows — unless ordered for 6+ episodes by a major network or streamer
Spend Requirements:
Meet one of these thresholds
- Spend 60% of your budget (excluding post) in NJ
OR - Spend $1 million+ in qualified NJ expenses
Other Key Rules:
- Must apply before principal photography begins
- Must include “Filmed in New Jersey” in end credits
- Must use NJ-registered vendors
- Must withhold 6.37% from contractors & loan-out companies
- Digital media projects need $2M+ annual spend & 50% NJ-based staff
