Eligibility – Who Qualifies?

Project Types That Qualify:

  • Feature films
  • Episodic TV shows (22+ minutes per episode)
  • Specials filmed at nonprofit venues (e.g. award shows, game shows)

Projects That Don’t Qualify:

  • Talk shows, news, sports broadcasts
  • Corporate/industrial content
  • Obscene material (per NJ statute)
  • Reality shows — unless ordered for 6+ episodes by a major network or streamer

Spend Requirements:

Meet one of these thresholds

  • Spend 60% of your budget (excluding post) in NJ
    OR
  • Spend $1 million+ in qualified NJ expenses

Other Key Rules:

  • Must apply before principal photography begins
  • Must include “Filmed in New Jersey” in end credits
  • Must use NJ-registered vendors
  • Must withhold 6.37% from contractors & loan-out companies
  • Digital media projects need $2M+ annual spend & 50% NJ-based staff
